My bladder function was somehow impaired during back surgery in 2006, and I've had to self-catheterize since. The process of getting cath supplies was a real struggle initially, dealing with several companies which were unprofessional, rigid and inept. I really strug- gled with catheters that were difficult for me to use, and suffered through one urinary tract infection after another as a result. I was never even told that there are quite a number of different, and better, catheters that would suit me better. I was referred to UMP in 2009, and the difference has been life-changing. Literally every person I've dealt with has been friendly, professional and helpful. They educated me on the different types of catheters available, even making sure I had samples to use to ascertain what would be best for me. Their agents arrange for home delivery of all supplies, interface with the insurance companies, and in general are just very accommodating. These folks are a shining star in a world that has come to accept mediocrity as the norm.
